I read it all. I rarely say a word. But this morning, my heart is SICK that a man in our state was re-elected ONLY because of the political party beside his name. He is a doctor, who allegedly* had multiple affairs and finally his wife had enough. They are now divorced. This all happened while he had young children as well. He reportedly asked one of his mistresses to have an ABORTION and yet people in our state re-elected him ONLY because he claims affiliation with a particular party. (*Divorce proceedings will confirm it all officially, but he admitted and multiple women share similar stories.)

This is the type of hypocrisy that I am so WEARY of. What in the world are people thinking?

To be in full disclosure, he is not in our district but I can assure anyone I would NOT have cast a vote for him. If you want to quit reading, that is fine, but I am so weary of the hate and the assumption that all Christians must vote for a man who is affiliated with one party no matter his lack of family values.

I am tired of seeing signs like the one in our neighborhood and all over town that say “VOTE FOR THE AMERICAN.” As far as I’m concerned, that is just RACISM alive and well. And right beside it, a sign that says “PRAY FOR OUR NATION.” And my kids do ask: “Why do those people say that when President Obama was born in Hawaii?” I did tell them the people are misinformed and possibly racist, but I don’t know them so I can’t say for sure about the racism part.

Whatever our affiliations, it is a sad day in our nation. I agree on that part. I do NOT believe for a nanosecond that Christ would have acted the way many Christians act during election season.

I am so very thankful for growing up in a family (and the Prez did as well) who taught me to look beyond the hate rhetoric and to look at each candidate individually, and to not be swayed by misinformation and hypocrisy. I look back at the words of my grandparents, all of whom (except my grandfather) voted on both sides of the aisle through the years, and I remember what all they shared with me about times they lived through, times that we’ve never known in my generation.

I pray for President Obama and his family in the coming days. I don’t pretend to know the heart of this man or his family. I take complete rest and peace in the knowledge and belief that God knows the President’s heart and God is sovereign. He is on His throne today, just as he was yesterday and the day before and since before the beginning of time.

And while these aren’t my words, this post that was forwarded to me yesterday really speaks volumes. Here is an excerpt: “If you are a conservative Christian, please tell me you’re pro-life after the baby is born. Please tell me you’re serious about trying to keep young people in school, off the streets, out of jail, and off of death row. Pro-life better mean from the womb to the tomb. Please tell me you are chewing on the sobering connection between poverty and abortion. If you really want to save babies you simply cannot ignore the role of hopelessness and poverty among our youth. You have to do something with the fact that abortions rose under Reagan and Bush I and then declined under Clinton. Try to understand why your liberal brothers aren’t convinced that a Republican president will dramatically affect abortion rates. (To be fair, abortions declined even more under George W.
