With sunny skies and temperatures in the mid-60s, we were busy today with spring cleaning at our little farm! Flowers are blooming … and we are ready for SPRING!

Picking up sticks …

… relocating extra egg cartons …

… picking up rocks that make their way to the surface …

… digging holes for gates in fences …

… digging a trench for electrical lines …

… sweeping the porch and the barn (they were so proud they wanted the Prez to see) …

… cleaning out the garden shed for a special nursery AND …

… bringing HOME newborn New Hampshire Red chicks!!!

We were hoping to get another breed as well, which the farm store was currently out of, so we got only five of the New Hampshire Reds (hopefully they are all pullets). They are really adorable!

They are now snuggled in their new home with food, water, a heat lamp, and *hopefully* sufficient protection from predators (we’ve caught possums in our hen house lately–the last one is no longer a threat).

I guess we will be calling our chicken ventures more than a passing fancy now. 😀 These new additions bring our flock to 26 total: 20 hens, 1 rooster, and 5 chicks, whose sex is yet unknown.

I hope to post weekly updates, but any regular readers will know that I have lots of ideas for series on my blog … notice I said ideas. I will try to post weekly photos at the very least. I know they will grow fast as our other chicks did. I also know where our littles will be observing them every chance they get.

Li’l Bit just keeps saying, “They are sooooo cute.”
