Pre-Kindergarten with Li’l Bit is going well, especially when I think back to this time last year. She still doesn’t relish a choice of things to do. She’d rather have a blank canvas, whether it be beans and things with which to pour, put, place, ponder or a piece of paper and dabs of paint with brushes, marbles, q-tips, or her fingers to make a masterpiece!
This last week, we concentrated on the Letter C and though we spent time on some indoor activities, in all honesty we spent a lot of time OUTSIDE just enjoying the beauty that this Fall is becoming!
Here’s a brief look back at our week:
While working on multiplication flash cards with my 3rd graders, I encouraged Li’l Bit to take the scraps of paper (NEVER throw away those laminated scraps!) and make a collage in her little book. She had so much fun making a colorful sunflower and cutting grass from the green strip of paper!
We talk a lot about what letters say and I love that Li’l Bit will already answer with the sound of a letter when I point to it rather than the letter name. If our preschoolers can learn those letter sounds first, they are so ready to begin reading!
This week, we read several books we had on hand and some from the library as well. We focused a lot on colors and so did our books, but we included some others as well! Here is our book list for the week:
Our Bible story this week was about Joseph and his time as a slave in Egypt, but we started reading about him before all of that happened when he wore his coat of many colors. Li’l Bit made a coat from a paper grocery sack, which she loved wearing around the house last week. I loved that it self-destructed eventually and made use of something that would have eventually ended up in the trash anyway.
She also loved counting her candy pieces while we studied outside on a quilt for her older brother and sister’s science lesson. I don’t keep candy here at home, but I got a good deal on these popular candies and we made good educational use of them as well!
On Thursday, Li’l Bit talked me into a short trip to the park nearby our errand running, and we had a great time exploring and climbing on the equipment! While we go about life and read books too, I encourage Li’l Bit to tell me when she hears or sees our letter of the week. All of the words I’ve highlighted are words she has pointed out to me this past week!
Her favorite activity of the whole week and one she came back to again and again was so simple and yet so experimental! I didn’t come up with this idea either. It like so many others you see here is a part of the God’s Little Explorer curriculum I purchased, and it did not disappoint. I put dabs of paint in a gallon-sized zipper bag. I encouraged Li’l Bit to push it around, mix it, dab it with a q-tip or a marble or her fingertip.
The best part of all is that there was NO MESS involved with this painting project. We talked about all of the colors, and I gave her an art reference sheet I have so that she could mix the colors just like the ones on the wheel. She used this bag all week long, and her big sister explored with it as well. I HIGHLY recommend this little activity for your young and not-so-young learners. We were even able to write her name, words and letters into the paint with the end of her q-tip!
In addition to these activities, we listened to books on-line via tumblebooks, utilized our ABCMouse subscript, and continued learning with my Page Protector Printables Resources like the Colors resource linked in the photos below. Mostly, we spent many hours outdoors and quite a few on the road as well. All in all, our week spent with Letter C was cool and colorful!
