I’m linking up again with DoodleBug Teaching for her Five for Friday Linky Party. Lately I seem to be late. I’m posting this on the 4th though as I started it that night!
This past week has been full of berry picking, canning blackberry jam and taking pics of my four from China on the Fourth while our other two (and the Prez) were at their last day of Scout Camp.
1. Blackberry Picking on the HOTTEST day of the summer.
2. Five of us ages 41 down to 4 picked nearly 4 POUNDS of ripe, juicy blackberries right off our property! Did I mention the heat index was over 100?
3. The AC felt good. Really, really good. I haven’t sweated so much in a week. OK, that was a lie. But it was HOT on Tuesday!
4. Oh, those beautiful berries. Taste great right off the vine. In a buttery “blackberry crunch” dessert (quick version of a cobbler). Or as JAM. Oh, yes, I canned them in my All-American! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!
5. Along with 7 more quarts of dill pickles with cucumbers from Curly’s section of the kids’ garden.
As for that taste, we tried the first batch of pickles tonight and the first batch of blackberry jam this morning. We will be making more! 🙂
I am envious, you have an American pressure canner…still hoping for one by our tomato season next month:)
Blessings
Yes I feel very blessed. It was a birthday gift in June from my parents, my in-laws and my hubby. Our parents gift us very generously for birthdays and they are always glad to combine their money for a larger gift. I hope you get one too. Amazon was the cheapest I found in price. I’m on the lookout for a cheap used one as well.
PS. I will email you tomorrow. The Prez wants me to ask you for your tomato canning recipes. My grandmother canned the best tomato juice. The Prez loved it. Unfortunately she didn’t use a recipe and none of us thought to write down her recipe before she passed. 🙁
