PreK with Li’l Bit {Week 7}

The week before we left for our beach trip, Li’l Bit spent a week focusing on the Letter I. The week was filled with learning more about insects including ladybugs and bees, which was perfect as we studied pollination with big brother and big sister.

GLE.LetterI

Who knew painting rocks into ladybugs and bees would be so FUN?! After going on a nature hike to find just the perfect smooth stones, Li’l Bit took her time putting on several coats of paint and adding just the right details.

GLEWeek7.1

Li’l Bit also enjoyed making her “Ladybug Numbers” while her big sis and big bro made skip counting ladybug numbers. Most often if it involves numbers, I can individualize for each of my younger students, two of whom are in 3rd grade and of course Li’l Bit, who is 4 and in PreK.

GLEWeek7.2

She first outlined her numbers with a red marker, next she colored the inside with a red crayon, she added black spots that equaled the number, and finally she exercised those finger muscles as she cut out each number! I put them all on a clip ring for one-to-one activities! She was very proud of doing this one all by herself! Continue reading

Spreading the Homeschool Love: Blog Hop and Giveaway

I am so excited to be a part of the Spreading the Homeschool Love Blog Hop and Giveaway. I am joining with some great homeschool teacher-authors to introduce you to some great sources for encouragement, ideas, collaboration and resources!
TpT Homeschool Blog Hop Image

I will share with you some more information about myself first. I added my first priced resource to my Teachers Pay Teachers store Page Protector Printables and More a little more than two years ago in May 2012. I have added more resources over time and also learned a lot about providing the highest-quality resources. I was inspired to begin my store when a resource I created to help my then kindergartners work with a calendar during Morning Meeting led to them actually understanding the calendar! That resource is now one of my best-selling resources: Build A Calendar.

PPPCalendarPage1

I continue to seek out high-quality resources at Teachers Pay Teachers, and I can ALWAYS find just what I need to supplement my children’s educational journey. While there are a wealth of free items available at TpT, I encourage you to look there for resources priced at all intervals to teach your preschoolers through high schoolers in any subject. One of the free resources I’ve found useful was created and shared by Rebecca of Line Upon Line Learning. Be sure to check out her blog and find the free resource {here}.

I have several free resources available in my TpT store as well. One of my most popular resources that you can download for free is my Number 11 Sample pack. You will find 10 different ways your child can explore the Number 11 in this free download. If you like what you see, you can find a link to a larger version that contains these same 10 activities for Numbers 1-20 (or Numbers 1-10 and Numbers 11-20 are available for separate purchase as well).

One of the best aspects of Teachers Pay Teachers is that you can take confidence in knowing you are purchasing one-of-a-kind resources from actual people who are teaching children! These resources are more often than not created from a teacher’s desire to make a resource to meet the need or needs of students in his her classroom. If you need a specific resource or need help intervening in your child’s learning journey, I am 100% certain you can find what you need at Teachers Pay Teachers! I would encourage you to start your search at one of the stores owned by the amazing bloggers I’ve teamed up with for this Blog Hop and Giveaway.

We’ve had our fair share of summer schooling, and we’ve had our fair share of summer lovin’ fun! The two phrases don’t seem to be synonymous with some of my students!

leapingin2learning

I love to find ideas on Pinterest. The key is to actually implement or at least try out those ideas. The two I’ll share more about below actually worked and are some I’ll keep in my bagbin of tricks for my official PreK sweetie. Continue reading

Now I Know My ABCs: Blog Product Swap

1937460_600256506740117_7230824100440957025_n

My Li’l Bit, who is 4, is very interested in the ABCs, and more importantly, she understands completely now that each letter makes certain sounds and that those letters make words! She was so excited today to try out a new ABC Letter Sound activity! She was able to try this fun resource out thanks to Green Apple Lessons, who sent it our way! Julie and I along with other awesome TpT sellers participated in a Blog Hop hosted by Cara’s Creative Classroom!

This resource kept my incoming PreK student very engaged and she asked me with a smile on her face, “Do I get to keep this, Mommy?” I assured her she could!

It was so beautiful in our neck of the woods today that we decided to test it out on the back porch! Li’l Miss decided to first put out the letter cards in alphabetical order. Her 8-year-old sister suggested this, and Li’l Bit thought it was a great idea! With Li’l Miss’s help, Li’l Bit soon had all of the letter cards lined up in ABC order.

photo(1)

I made sure the picture cards were in random order. The very first card she picked up was a zipper for Z, and Li’l Bit said, “Oh, zip … that’s a Z sound!” She was off to a great start! She loved figuring out which letter each picture card belonged to as she pulled card after card. Each letter card has a corresponding picture card.

Since we were outside on the steps, which she chose as her learning space, she was was able to work on gross motor skills too! She just knew she could get the umbrella under the letter U card by twisting around, and she did!

After she was all finished, she broke into an impromptu rendition of the ABC song! She asked me one more time, “You are going to put this in my ABC center box, right, Mommy?” I said I was and she was a very happy and proud 4-year-old girl!

photo 3This ABC activity would make a great activity for early finishers, center time, small groups, or even in a speech therapy setting. The possibilities for using these cards are endless! Please check out this ABC Letter and Sound activity and many other early and elementary education learning resources at Green Apple Lessons TpT store!

Be sure to continue reading the other blogs linked below for more practical, kid-tested, and high-quality products from some stellar stores at Teachers Pay Teachers.

What to Do on A{nother} Rainy Day?

A). I could cry. Literally a river. As I watch our garden inundated yet again with torrential downpours. Just for reference: here’s is our otherwise lovely creek. Except right now it is swollen and way outside its banks. Bummer!

IMG_0191B). Or I could curl up with a good book like these two, which I have never finished but really want to finish.

IMG_2398C). Or I could attempt to clean up this pile that mocks me every single time I enter our library.

IMG_1935D). Or I could get some long overdue things printed like my new Alphabet Page Protector Printable Set and my fantastic new TpT and Blogging Planning Binder and actually display these Number Posters that I created awhile ago and sell in my TpT store.

IMG_0216IMG_0221IMG_2390E). Or I could try to finally finish up a new product I’ve been working on which involves a candy theme and fact fluency. Here’s a little sneak peak!

photo 2F). Or I could do all of the above! I have done some of these things today and yesterday as the rains have continued to fall and fall and fall.

Let’s see. How did I do? Continue reading
